The wait is over! We have released the second single from Inspomia named “Photos on the Wall” through Dark Escapes Music.

Musically, this started as an AI generated chord sequence based on input from around 25 different tracks (from varying genres). I found the mood and started to work on it as a ABAB style structure but quickly found that this wasn’t going to work. This sequence is more like AAAB but there’s bits in between. I sent the raw tracks with the drum machine off to Kyle and he came back with some pretty thunderous parts which instantly made me want to heavy it up a lot, so out comes a 7-string to contrast the telecaster across the rest of the song. For further contrast, Presh’s vocals are soft and delicate which I think suits it very well.

This was the first time working with Ian Miller from Melville Recording Studios in Adelaide who mixed and mastered this song. It was also great to get input from him as well – being a musician himself he had a lot of ideas about where to take the mix. I actually re-did the bass and added a synth bass as his recommendation and couldn’t be happier with the new results.

The words were very personal to me and inspired by the children and adults who have had their lives changed by bullying, from the schoolyard to social media. It’s a raw and personal account of appearing okay when you’re not.

Did you know that 1 out of 5 Australian school kids report being affected by bullying. 9 Australians die each day by suicide. Globally the stats are worse with a third of school-aged children reporting bullying. Suicide is the second-highest cause of death in the 10-24 age bracket.

Outside of my personal stories I took a lot of inspiration from a tragedy that happened to a young adult who committed suicide after a case of brutal social media posts relating to her time on a reality TV show.

I wanted this song to help provide hope and a promise that there is always someone there to hold your hand and listen.

Photos on the Wall is out now through all the major platforms including Spotify and Apple Music
